Denim Vest!

I posted earlier this week that I finally found a denim vest at the thrift store that actually fit me! I finally figured out a way to wear it, but i'm still looking/thinking about other options.

The vest is from goodwill, the skirt is Free People, the tank is from Target, and the shoes are Urban Outfitters.

It's a very simple outfit, but i like it. I love the 90's feel to the vest, now i just want to play up the 90's-ness even more! I may even sew it up a bit since it's a little big.

Today I spent my day thrifting, painting, and getting cupcakes with my boyfriend from this amazing bakery called Oh Snap!

My boyfriend got the Oreo one and mine was called The Jerry. It had popcorn on it! It was absolute caramel heaven! I can't wait to go back and try the other crazy flavors. :]

Thrift Store Find!

I realize I already posted today, but I just couldn't help myself from sharing this dress I found at Goodwill the other day.

I know I have a super goofy face in the picture, but it gets the point across. For only about $4 I couldn't help myself from getting this dress. I've been looking for more white clothing as well as maxi dresses and skirts. Summer makes me want to drown myself in anything white. The dress is a little fancy for my taste, but I'm trying to figure out how to down play it. Maybe layer with a loose crop top? I could use some ideas.

More 3D art!

As a follow up to my last post I wanted to post a couple more of my 3D art from this past semester.

This first one is my least favorite. We had to remake an object out of foam and change it some how. I decided to make a child-like shotgun (i love working with contradictions).

For the second project we had to take a 9 ft by 3ft (i think) piece of brown paper and use up all of it to create a sculpture that translates the idea of extension. This is what I came up with. My teacher loved it. There is so much movement to it and also so many contrasting elements. I realize I need to Photoshop that light out of the picture, I'll get there.

3D projects

So I don't consider myself a 3D artists. I never understood how to conceptualize my ideas into 3D form. I have definitely been crafty, but i just never thought i would do 3D art. All bachelors of art majors have to take a variety of classes to graduate. And good thing too! I took a 3D class last semester and I loved it. And I actually did some great work!

For this first project we had no make negative sculpture with plaster. I decided to use pepper to fill with plaster, since peppers remind me so much of Hungary (paprika is one of Hungary's biggest export!). It ended up being a time lapse piece in a sense with the peppers rotting over time with the bone-like plaster insides. Once again it was a way to explore my feelings about being Hungarian, yet living in America most my life.

For this second project we had to recreate an everyday object into a soft sculpture. I had been very intrigued by the word effervescent and ethereal, as well as working with the idea of opposites, so I decided to recreate a chain link (which is hard, and metal) into something ethereal by making it out of floating white sheer fabric. I also wanted the chain to be coming apart, either representing finding order in chaos, or breaking free from something.

Like the title says these are more paintings I've done recently.

This first one was in a show back in May called Muse. It was a show dedicated to women artists. I showed this one and the self portrait from the last post. I actually still haven't gotten those paintings back yet. Eep, i may need to get on that.

The size is about 3.5 by 2 feet. or maybe for 4 by 2. I don't remember.

For this painting I used a completely new technique with just using a palate knife. It only took me about an hour to complete it too, so I was definitely happy about that. It was my first male live nude model, which was overwhelming for an instant, but i quickly became comfortable. How can you go wrong with penises?

It a 1ft by 1 ft painting.

A good couple months ago (or has it been a year?!) I wrote that i wanted to update this blog more. But that didn't happen. Now its summer time and I have time to actually blog! I'm changing it up a little bit though, including fashion inspirations and general inspirations, outfits that i create, and sewing projects. I will of course still post my art and everything of that matter.

So this painting is one of my favorites done to date. Its a self portrait (obviously) with a field background that is my father's hometown of Battonya. My best friend Kodi toke the picture of me in Hungary last summer during our trip. I was particularly drawn to the photograph because of the composition. With my recent paintings I am trying to explore my heritage and feeling of detachment, yet attachment to both America and Hungary, as well as exploring the traditional side of Hungary (that town/family is very traditional) and how i don't relate to it. I think this painting gets that across, right?

Summer Clothes Addictions

So this summer I have been on the prowl for new clothes. Particular types of clothes. But i tend to not like to spend too much money on anything, so I am left to forage through the few thrift stores of my town. I have a bit of luck in finding a few amazing pieces. My first craving is the denim vest!

I finally found one today after many months of searching!

Now i just need to take a picture with it.

Maize Maze!

So this past weekend my boyfriend and I made a trip to a local corn maze, out in the middle of no where. I had made sandwiches for our way their though. We had a lil car picnic, well thats at least what i like to call eating in the car. But anyway, they make the maze every October and its only $6 to do the it. I had actually gone to it last year, but it wasn't as good. I gone on the last weekend they were open and the corn had dried out and wasn't tall enough anymore to make the maze much of a challenge. But this year i knew i had to come earlier. The corn was definitely a lil green still and a lot taller. This made the maze a lot harder though, haha.

After being lost for a bit, we finally made it out! haha.

Along with the corn maze they gave to the chance to shot their corn cannon. :D

I sucked at it. So did Trey.

As we were leaving we saw this gas station called the Country Store. Well to say the least, i just had to go investigate. :]

So i'm kind of in love with this movie right now. The music, the colors, the french, the red and green (complementary colors just melt me away).

Has anyone ever read Stargirl? its a child like book (well more so preteenish) but its absolutely wonderful, one of my favorite books from when i was a kid. But Amelie kind of reminds me of Stargirl a lil bit. Maybe thats just me.

Well the movie is a major inspiration right now. Be prepared for a project coming up soon inspired by this movie. I don't know what yet, but it will be awesome. :]

Repurpose!

So, I have all these potted plants and I didn't like them just sitting on my back deck. I took a day trip to Waterfront Mission Thrift store and found this old grade school desk for $5. The minute i looked at it i instantly thought "Plant holder!" So i bought it and with great difficulty got it home (it hardly hit in my car). I took off the wooden desk part and spray painting it black. And tada... a new plant holder!

What do you guys think?

Hu G. Whales!

Finally posting more recent work these past couple days. I did this one at some point in the summer. Kind of inspired by my boyfriend's band, Hu G. Whales. I was originally going to use this as a flyer for a show, but ran out of time. I might still make it into one, possibly for their EP release show. But either way, this was my first time using water color pencils! I really like how it turned out. The photo definitely did not do it justice. It's so much more vibrant and bright in person.

This is the first project done outside of class. We had to draw a piece of clothing. So i chose a pair of cut off shorts. Problem is....I didn't exactly finish it. Don't know if i ever will, since i have so many other projects I'm working on right now.

I realize i keep posting about my cooking/food, but I just can't help it. I love cooking way too much.

This here is my attempt at a deconstructed stir fry/fried rice.

And i used a leek for my first time! For those of you who don't know what that is, it pretty much looks like a giant green onion, but has a much more delicate taste.

It's called a deconstructed stir fry because the only thing i cooked with the rice is the leeks (with some yummy sesame oil). Then you fry up an egg, and some garlic and ginger separately and put it together. Kind of a mix between French and Asian cooking.

So this spring we planted a ton of vegetables, fruits, and flower, and hoped for the best to see if they would survive and possible produce some food. And they are doing so well!

I haven't been this excited about my plants in a long time. :]

Casserole Dish Cooking

So I've always looked cooking, but i keep finding myself using a casserole pan for lots of my dishes. I think i have developed an obsessed. I mean, how can you resist that warm baked goodness. mmm.

Dye Dress Dye

So i bought this blue swiss dot dress from Target (Rodarte for Target) hoping to wear to my friend's wedding. Well i ended up not even wearing it because I felt like I looked like a pixie, cause of the blonde hair/baby blue color combo.

To fix the problem (and not just throw away $30 in a dress I would never wear),

I decided to dye it black.

Cooking away...

Well it didn't turn out black, more

greenish, but still much better than it was before.

And here is how i wore it. No more pixie.

I definitely need to iron the dress though.

I just noticed that my kitty creeped in the picture. :]

Hello Helvetica

If you do not know yet, Helvetica is a typeface . To be precise, one of the most popular font types, used for everything from business logos and street signs. Although it may be strange to write about a font, a lot o people are obsessed with Helvetica. Or very opposed to it, since it has become such a commodity now. There is even a movie about it.

Halloween Costume!

I realise this is kind of late, but I still wanted to show my Halloween Costume that I made. I was a Mushroom! From the front it kind of looked like a sombrero, but I think it still turned out good. I actually won the costume contest at my friend Tricia's party. Thanks so much for that sweetie!

I made it out of felt, cardboard and fiberfill about an hour before the party.

Zombie Walk

So a couple of my friends and I decided to hold our very own Zombie Walk in Pensacola. Well of course it wasn't as big as the ones in New York, Grand Rapids, San Diego, and numerous other places, but we did have about 50 or 60 zombies dressed up roaming the streets of downtown together moaning and goaning. We did it during one of Pensacola's gallery nights, since that is pretty much the only time of the year that there are a good amount of people in our downtown streets. I think it turned out pretty well. Here are some of the picture of the that night.

I made this jewelry holder a while back to organize all my necklaces. Its saved me hour of searching through my drawers for the one I would want to wear any day. And all the necklace holders you can buy at retail stores never had enough hooks. I actually added another row of hooks to the bottom and the whole thing is now hanging on my wall. i just haven't taken any new pictures.

Such an amazing movie! It's a Hungarian movie, well more like art film, about a very bizarre true insident that occured in the village of Nagyrév, Hungary. There is no real dialoge, or much speaking at all, so no worries if you are not Hungarian. They do sing a traditional Hungarian folksong near the end of the movie, but its got subtitles. Although i may be biased, since its an art movie...and its from my homeland, but it really amazing. Its kind of hard to understand, but once you understand the weirdly hidden plot, the movie becomes absolutly brilliant. :]

You can find the movie on netflix, but i'm not sure where else.
